TRINITY HISTORY
Who We Are Today:
Trinity
is a small church community with a big heart. Members of our community come
from many walks of life to learn how to “love the Lord our God with all our
heart, mind, soul, and strength, “ and “to love our neighbors as ourselves”.
“A
Taste of Trinity” is symbolic of our commitment to this ministry of nourishing
soul, mind and body. Loving our neighbors as ourselves means heeding the words
attributed to Jesus in Matthew’s Gospel, “You are the salt of the earth…you are
the light of the world…let your light shine before others so they might see
your good works and give glory to God who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5: 13-16).
You
will find in the pages of this site a variety of ways in which you can be
involved in this congregation when you are ready to expand your involvement in
addition to Worship.
Wherever
you are on your faith journey, you are welcome here.
May
God’s Peace be with you,
The

Where We’ve Come From:
Trinity
Church in Marshfield was first established in 1742 under the authority of the
Church of England. In 1790, the proprietors of the Church were incorporated
under the name of the “Episcopal Protestant Society in Marshfield”. The parish
grew and prospered until circa 1853 when a shrinking congregation culminated in
the closing of the Church.
Trinity
Mission began in 1916 with services in the homes of a few families in the
Seaview area. The Women’s Guild rented and later purchased the Summer Street
schoolhouse from the town and services were held at the Seaview Mission until
it was turned over to the Diocese in 1965.
In 1947, the North Baptist Church on Highland Street, then owned by the
North Community Church, was given to Trinity to become Trinity Episcopal
Church. The Seaview Chapel was moved to Highland Street for use as a parish
hall. An addition was made to the former schoolhouse and it became Johnson
Hall, in honor of Archdeacon Herbert L. Johnson, priest-in-charge of the
Trinity Mission.
Steeple
School of Trinity Church was founded in 1963 to respond to a community in need
for a kindergarten-nursery school. There was no public kindergarten and only a
few private pre-schools in the town of Marshfield. The school was located in Johnson Hall and, in 1969, was moved
into a new Christian Education building located at the rear of the property.
The
rectory was built in 1964 on property adjacent to the Church.
