BUILDING & GROUNDS
Trinity
Church has four buildings and about five (5) acres of property. A paid janitor that we call a sexton cleans
the Church building and Johnson Hall. The Education building (which houses the
Steeple School of Trinity Church) is cleaned by a separate person. The Rectory
is cleaned by those who live it it.
The
balance of the building maintenance and most of the grounds maintenance is done
by Church Members. There are two clean-up Sundays held each year – one in the
Spring and the other in the Fall – where we spruce up the grounds. In addition to that we have sporadic Work
Days to do specific jobs like clean up Johnson Hall, cut down and trim
trees. Several individuals volunteer to
weed and maintain a garden area.
Resurrection Garden:
The
Resurrection Garden began with the encouragement of former Rector Alden Powers,
when a parcel of land was given to Trinity Church by an abutter in the early
1980’s. The original trustees of the
Resurrection Guild were Trinity members – Polly Malcolm, Mary MacRae, and Peggy
Slade. Their first task was to research
other burial gardens and to design the space.
A few members of Trinity Church paid fees to enable the Guild to
establish the garden as it is today.
Benches and the birdbath, donated as memorials, adorn the garden to make
it a peaceful resting place.
The
Resurrection Garden is situated among the pines and rhododendrons that adorn
the back corner of the church property.
The
Garden is entered from the parking lot by a stone path and offers a place of
beauty and solitude for the living and a place of repose for the ashes of the
dead.
The
garden was originally created for use by former, present and future members of
the parish and their families, but is also available to non-members. It is an
especially appropriate place for those to whom Trinity has had a special
meaning. There are lots of projects
that need to be done (some short-term and others on-going). There is a coordinator for Buildings and
Grounds on the Ministry Contact list.
