Restaurant reviews for Ming Dynasty

Good Place to play Keno

I would recommend the Ming as a place to have a drink, play Keno (if that's what you like) and perhaps order an appetizer, I'm not too fond of the main dishes. Perhaps it is just my taste, but it seems that most of the food has a strong taste, as though they are trying to hide something??

I guess it's just an O.K. place to go. The restaurant has been in business for quite some time (I remember way back, when that location was a laundromat) so they must be doing something right. Give it a try, your taste buds may like it.

I think the Ming has gotten so much better!! I wouldnt go anywhere else for Chinese food. I love the people who work there, especially bc they have been there forever, and the food has greatly improved. Overall, really enjoy it. Keep it up.

Bad Memories...

Well, my new husband came home and suggested that we head to "The Ming" for a nice dinner...after all, we were just home from our honeymoon and neither of us felt like cooking. What HE didn't know was that I had not been back to "The Ming" since my dancing days. I would go there before a shift in order to "fuel up" for the night. It brought back memories of the old days...eggrolls paid for with a handful of wadded up singles. I have to say though, the food is still fantastic!!

Food was cold, but it was supposed to be!!

My girlfriend and I headed into "The Ming" for a much needed date night. I thought I'd try the Gazpacho soup and when it arrived cold, I remarked that this was the last straw! I would never be back! Imagine my embarrassment when I discovered that it is typically served cold. I'm afraid I'm not terribly well-traveled. For dinner I had the chicken special and it was delicious...and HOT!

The Greatest Place Ever!!!

I'm a resident and this place always does the trick. Great food and great atmosphere. I even met my girlfriend in the parking lot. Why travel far when Marshfield has everything you need.

Shockingly bad

I have had a few bad meals in my day, but nothing like the Ming Dynasty. I had given up on them quite a while ago but recently said I would give them another try. It was still disgusting. My rice was dry and entirely flavorless. My chicken was yellow and had even less flavor than the rice. There was flavor in my egg roll and shrimp dish but it was a pretty nasty one... far from what you want to have in your mouth. I have no idea how this place stays open. I know the bar had a crowd when I was in there at about 5:00 pm so maybe that is how they stay afloat. I jut can't imagine people eating enough of this putrid food to support the business.

Amazing!!!!

The Ming Dynasty is my favorite place ever! This is seriously the best place around. It's a good place to stop for a drink after work, and then bring a take out home to the family afterwards. the chicken wings are my favorite but i also love the crab rangoons, spear ribs, sweet and sour pork..i could just go on forever. everything is good there! The owner, Ming has to be the nicest guy on the planet. He takes pride in his restaurant and it shows. His daughter in college also works there (very attractive may i add) and it seems the two of them really show the meaning of "family style restaurant". Both are very friendly, and make you feel at home when they already know what you are going to order. I know this place gets so-so reviews, but over the past year, things have really shaped up. If you had a bad experience in the past I suggest you give it one more try, there have been big improvements! I wont go anywhere else for chinese food.

Still No Good

I had not dined in this restaurant in years due to the overall decline in quality. The last time I dined at the Ming Dynasty I had 2 sons, one was in 7th grade and one was a sophomore in HS. Today they are 29 and 32 yrs old. A friend of mine travels from Braintree to eat at this restaurant and raves about it. I was reluctant but I did decide to give it another try. Big mistake. Food was terrible. Bland, gelatinous sauce. I got a chicken dish and a calamari dish to take out. You could not tell the chicken from the calamari. The calamari was as chewey as could be. Fried rice was the same as it was 20 yrs ago. Dark brown, dry rice with no flavor. I felt like the place deserved a second chance on my part. I learned my lesson and will not give it a 3rd chance.

Its a fun place

We were just there the night before Thanksgiving and the place was mobbed as excpected to be with all the college kids in town. I have to say the service was excellent. The waitress (Cindy i think??) did a phenomenal job as so did the asian bartender. There was scorpian bowls being ordered everywhere and they kept up. For the amount of people there you didnt have to wait that long. Great job!

I Wouldn't Feed It To the Homeless!

Our chicken had a yellowish-green hue. The spare ribs looked like they were gummy ribs. The hot and sour soup had globs of unidentifyable things. We had several drinks and did not have high expectations. We paid the $60 bill and left. I can't believe this restaurant can stay in business.

Very Good!

I have gotten take-out from the Ming several times now and have always been pleased. I was especially pleased last night when I got the dinner for one for the first time which was only $7.00 and was an egg roll, pork strips, pork fried rice, and beef chow mein... plus bread and condiments... pretty good deal and the food was hot and fresh.

MUCH MUCH BETTER

I used to go to the South Island (Hmm remember that) before they moved to Ming Dynasty. For years it was great, then slowly went down hill. I would still stop there once in a while but not like before. Then after their renovations my wife and I decided to stop again. BIG DIFFERENCE. The food was SOOO much better than before.

I don't know what you changed, but PLEASE keep it that way.

Food Stinks, But Get The Drinks!

Being a Marshfield police officer I tend to stay away from the Ming as it usually attracts the kind of people who would rather slap me across the face then say hello. But back in the day, when things were gay, I'd go there at least 3 times a week. The food was no good, horrid actually, but let me tell you, the drinks would make you want to kiss a man with a mustache and put on a pair of daisy dukes. Wayne the barkeep is a standup guy who knows how to make a killer Mai Tai. He's give you a wink and smile and then get you so drunk you'll give youself a fruitcup. Anyway, if its food you want, go to The Mug. But if drinking and cussin' is your fancy, head on over to the Ming. Peace in the Middle East

Headed in the Right Direction

My wife and I recently visited the Ming Dynasty after having taken a breather from eating there as each time we visited the place seemed to have slipped a bit more (both food and the physical restaurant). We had noticed there had been some work going on there and decided it was time to try it again.

When we walked in we did noticed that there had been some improvements made but the ceiling in the bar area still needs some attention. The small tables in the lounge area have been largely replaced with larger ones and can now accomodate more than a Pu Pu Platter and a couple drinks. Most welcome was the addition on a large projection screen TV that was showing an important football game. The crowd seemed to be a step above the group who had been hanging around there for a long time.

Personally, I think the Ming should raise their beer prices a half dollar so some of the crowd moves to another locale. The language and general atmosphere has been a real issue for quite some time.

Our food was good but not great. Rolls and butter have disappeared (not sure if this was just an oversight by our attentive waitress.

I'm glad to see some improvements being made and would like to see some continued progress (new ceiling and a new carpet in the lounge would go a long way towards making you feel the place is really cleaned up).

We don't have a good selection of chinese restaurants in the area so we'd really like to see the old Ming back. Their Mai Tais are still the best around!

I NEEDED TO ASK FOR CLEAN UTENSILS

To go to the ming was a real treat for me when I was a child. The food was always warm and the crab-rangoon was always tasty. I went there a month ago and needless to say I can obviously see why my parents stopped going there.
First of all; my knIfe had a huge chunk of somthing on it, the food was cold, the chicken wings were as hard as a rock and my once very memorable crab-rangoon was no crab and all goon,(that's not a good thing). I left and just went next-door to Anthonys.........if you want chineese food-do it right, go to China Wok. I think that place needs to be shut down, it's a waste of space and is only good if you want to get drunk and play Keeno all day.

I have found memories, but now the place is not so good.

I remember when the Ming was a hot spot in town, like the Jamies of a bye gone Marshfield. The place was filled with patrons and the food was good.

Now, is not that time. The food is sometimes burnt, such as the Egg Foo Young. The food is often cold or undercooked, such as the beef with peapods. The waitstaff are friendly enough and I have never seen any bugs or mice or rats. But, I avoid the place. I only go there because my father likes it there. He doesn't have a computer so you may not be hearing his side of the story.

Blah

I used to go there when it was the South Island Restaurant furter east on rt 139. It has gone down hill dramatically over the years. About every six months or so, I give it another chance, hoping I will be surprised. It still is bad. The once premier Chinese restaurant in the area has become the worst.

We got McDonald's....

My family and I stopped here last week and we were horrified. Our food arrived cold and we tried to eat it but it was extremely poor in quality. Just as were about to say something about the food, we saw either a really large mouse or a medium sized rat run by our table. It horrified my wife and young daughter when they saw it. It looked too big to be a mouse and I refused to stay in any place with rats running through it. We complained about it to our waiter but he did not seem to care. I finally got fed up and just paid the bill and left. We went to McDonald's to finish eating....even their food was far superior and we did not see any rats by our table. Hopefully the board of health will close this place down and we'll get a quality eatery in there!

Pure junk...

I used to enjoy this place about 10 years ago but boy have they gone down the slippery slope. It is just plain disgusting food now and not even worth condieration. Skip this place and go to any other Chinese establishment instead. This place ranks dead last for food in Marshfield...

When we first moved the area - 20 years ago - it was great and was alot of fun. Now I wouldn't even consider going there. Food is terrible, and honestly, I am afraid to eat there anymore - they've had too many board of health issues.

Old Fashion Polynesian Food

They make food here that taste's like the Chinese food you had as a kid. The fried rice is so dark its almost black. Very good pu-pu platters. If you want real Chinese food, go to Chinatown.

Pretty pathetic for the past 20 years or so

When they first opened, they were passable. But these days, all of their food tastes like thawed out pre-packaged junk from BJ's prepared foods area. ANYWHERE else is preferable.

Disappointed

I was excited to finally find a low cal option at a Chinese restaurant. Ordered the delite dinner w/ chicken and veggies,it was unbelievably bland and tasteless. Also, i hate rice and it seemed like the container was filled w/80% rice. Won't be going back.

Ever seen bugs crawl up the wall?

No lie. Where is the Board of Health when you need them.

Why bother?

Haven't been there in a long time. Over the years it has gotten steadily worse. Just stopped going.
