Restaurant reviews for Arthur & Pat's

"First Time Patrons"

Very early on July 31,2010 the two of us walked into Arthur and Pat's. Not knowing what to expect, we were asked to sit anywhere. An energetic waitress took our order and when it arrived, "OH MY GOD" for every bite... I made a yummy sound and it was only scrabbled eggs and french toast.
I took home a doggy bag and had it the next morning. I got my money's worth. My other half thought it a bit pricey but he bought me a t-shirt anyway. I'll wear with pride... my grandson's name is Arthur.
Thanks De for the entertainment!

Not the Best Place in the World

I realize that 'famous celebs' make appearences at Arthur and Pats, but they should not be the only people being catered to, which is what happened to me in most of my visits there. If you're not a regular, you're a nobody. If you want a good breakfast, than its a great place, but if you want to have breakfast for under $20, forget about it.

Would never go back........for the pretentious only

So finally we go into the world famous Arthur and Pats. This guy would cook you spam with mint jelly or one of his other bizarre concoctions and then if you haven't been made fool of enough, he hits you with prices that insult your intelegence. We ordered 2 coffees looked at the scribbling on the walls and only after seeing scrambled eggs for $12.95 did we tell the ignorant waitress that we would have the check and go to The Mug for a real breakfast. Oh and lose the political affront with the peace flag. Better yet move to New York

Athur And Pat's (sure are a couple of good eggs alright)

Arthur and Pats is one of the best resturaunts in new england by far. People can complain about the prices all they want, this breakfast is not normal. Banana bread french toast, chicken marsala risotto, scrambled eggs and truffles. The outrageously fun things the great people at arthur and pats due will blow you away. I hope some people saw chronicle last night or all the awards on the windows as you go in, INCLUDING best service by the famous De. The food is to die for and always keeps me coming back for more.

think twice before you turn away

ive been to all the breakfast places in town. i have lived here my whole life. lots of you dont like the prices and say the prices go up all the time. you need to remember they have the best food quality. some of you also dont like the service. i think the service is very good. i went there when i was a teenager and they didnt treat me any different then an adult sitting down to eat. D is very nice. what waitress would be in a chipper mood towards people that keep sayin something is wrong with everything they order. the menu on the walls is what makes them unique. A&P's food choices are bold and new. good luck finding that on the south shore thats cheaper and better than A&P's.

A great experience

Everytime I go into Arthur & Pat's I have such a great experience. The food is incredible and the service outstanding. I love the creativity that Artie demonstrates with his daily specials. I truly appreciate the patience that De shows when I can't seem to decide which dish I want to indulge in on that particular day. I have been shocked to read the negative reaction some consumers have had to dining at Arthur & Pat's. All I can say is that If you DON'T want a great meal, super service and an all around memorable experience don't go there. If you are hungover, grumpy or just plain old cheap do not put this on your agenda otherwise bon appetite!!

Never Again

Haven't visited Arthur & Pat's in a while and I'd have to say that I haven't missed anything. The prices are higher, the place is noisier and the wait staff is still obnoxious. The food is good, but the prices are outrageous. What the heck are we paying for? You would think you are eating at a FIVE STAR restaurant for the prices they charge. Actually a 5 Star restaurant is cheaper.

I will say that I won't be going back, "EVER AGAIN". I like a good meal, but I refuse to get "robbed". My gosh, what is it that makes people voluntarily overpay for a meal and continue to patronize this restaurant??

Always great food at Arthur and Pats

My wife and I will drive to Brant Rock when ever we get the chance to eat at Arthur & Pat's....when we want cheap we might go someplace else, but when we want good food done very well this is the place for lunch or breakfast....great selections and large portions. The winters are always longer when they are closed, but that gives us a chance to try some other locations (but we have not found many that serve the as good a quality of food for less money)

Incredible behavior

As I was coming out of the Fish Market, I heard a female voice screaming..at a customer coming out of Arthur and Pat's. It was Dee,yelling at a Senior citizen, "Hey ** you didn't like the service?"..more lewd language and gestures,as the senior drove quietly away. This used to be such a great place for a meal and to meet people, but customer service has left the building, and for the prices you might as well be in New York City.
The Wildflower in Duxbury makes breakfast and lunch a lovely experience.

too expensive

Why can't this place give you a menu. They are quick enough about the specials of the day. Way tooo expensive. Are we supporting there winter residence. Not good service but I guess more people go there. They don't need all the business.

Wish i had checked these reviews before going

What a rip off !!

We love family breakfast, but the price of an egg has a different meaning here.

Their prices change the taste from enjoying, to almost ruining your day.

Isn't it a shame how happy you are heading out to eat and a places such as Arthur & Pat's changes your whole mode to feeling like your a sucker upon leaving.

I bet the owners and workers have a good laugh counting the money they rip people off for the "price of an egg".

I, for one, don't need to hear anyone telling me how good a breakfast is. An egg is an egg, and pretty hard to ball up cooking or making it taste any different from another place at 1/2 the price. For the most part, the price is the gauge of a good breakfast.

Too bad reviews about places, like Artur and Pat's,couldn't get to people in a timely manner.

By the way ...... i didn't leave a tip ...... told the waitress it was included in the bill price. Speak to the owner about it, because he made enough profit for both of you.

You may think that is mean, but it seemed to me that the set up there is kind of ..... they all know what's going on. Especially, knowing your hooked when you sit down, and volunteer nothing about prices. No wonder there's no menu in the front window.

Thanks for upsetting us Arthur and Pat's ....... hope this review helps someone not getting trapped into a wrong start for their happy day out.

Not Impressed

The waitress was extreemly rude and the price for an Omlette was overpriced at $10.95. Were talken eggs here not prime rib. I was shocked when I got the bill for two of us at almost $30. They asked me if I wanted onions in my homefries and they had the nerve to charge for them. Coffee was like water and limited you to one cream and one jelly and you had to ask for everything. When my omlette came I couldn't find the sausage in it as there was a thin lining of cheese. I was given only one slice of toast. That is crazy as they have to limit everything that they give you. In this ecomomy they should get their act together and cater to people who will go back. I have now been there twice my first and last.

Back in Brant Rock for another summer and I decided to give Arthur & Pat's another try after my disappointment last summer. Well, the prices were higher and the service was even worse! The food is great, don't get me wrong. I could prbably get past the high prices if there was good service. But, as per last summer, the waitress "D" was very rude, she rushes her customers and is not accommodating in the least. I will never give this place another try. It's not for me.

almost fell of the stool when i got the bill!

went there by myself, 1 cup of coffee, 1 bowl of oatmeal, 1 grilled bagel.
= $15.95!! i had to check the menu cause i thought she gave me the wrong bill. sorry, never again, i'll go down the street. i got ripped off!!! i would not recommend.

Can't afford it

This place used to be great. We went there back in the late 70's/ early 80's.
I went there for the last time in the Fall of 07'. The prices are rediculous. The waitress was great. She even warned me about how much a certain item was. They must think they're legendary.

The Greatest Breakfast You Will Ever Eat!

If you are looking for a generic, boring, greasy, $1.99 breakfast special, please stay away from Arthur & Pat’s and leave the seats for those of us who truly love and appreciate the incredible food this restaurant has to offer. Artie is a genius in the kitchen, and his sister De is a joy in the dining room. Everything on the massive menu is great, but my favorites are the Crabcakes and Eggs, Banana Bread French Toast, and Lobster Omelette.

OVER PRICED

My last visit to this OVER PRICED breakfast spot! The food is tasty but who can afford those prices for eggs, just eggs!!! I'm sorry but I will not be going back there. Also you need to have perfect eye sight to see all the menu options as they are on the walls around the restaurant and not on a menu in front of you.

Good luck in this economy

Terrible service!

The food is great, no doubt about it. But, I can't get past the rude service. This is not Durgin Park here. Seriously, there service is so bad, it takes away from the food. I would not go back if it were for free!

Review submitted on January 25th, 2008 anonymously – from Marshfield

Rude and proud of it !

My daughter and I ate there last summer and the food was OK. That said, the "service" was unbelievably bad. This was our first trip there and we were treated like intruders in some private club. My daughter, who is 16, was completely ignored by the waitress, who actually had the nerve to talk about how she was dressed to another table ! I will NEVER go back, and will tell all who will listen to stay clear of this highly overrated and totally unprofessional DIVE. And to "The Big Guy"....I am not some bumpkin who doesn't understand what good food and service are....rude is rude, no matter the venue.

Restaurant and more

Arthur & Pat's is by far one of my favorite restaurants. I have been there many times and absolutely love their unique and tasty dishes. I recently received short notice about some family members coming in from out of state. I offered to have everyone over my house and then panicked. I called Dee and asked her what Art could cook up for a dinner party for 10. He made the most delicious chicken marsala I have ever had. He also made us a brussel spouts and vinegar side dish with a wonderful caesar salad with roasted tomatoes. He offered to make rice but I told him I could handle that. I picked it up in serving dishes that made it look like it was homemade (not aluminum foil pans). Specific heating instructions were included with telephone numbers to reach him with any questions. Everyone raved about the food and he surely made me look good. Don't forget to try Arthur and Pat's for their catering too. They also did an unbelievable job when they catered my son's high school graduation party.

I don't get it

OK food
Overpriced menu
If they don't know you, you get the cold treatment
The dining room doesn't look too clean, makes you wonder about the kitchen

Except that it is the only place where to get breakfast, what's so special about it?

Review submitted on September 12th, 2007 by Brantrocker – from Brant Rock

Terrible service

I was there recenlty, and my breakfast order came out wrong. When I asked the waitress/owner to fix it, she said that they were too busy to cook antother and I could either just eat it, or she could take it away and wouldn't charge me.

Seriously!! They are a breakfast restaurant and they couldn't handle cooking another breakfast?!? In my mind, this is unacceptably poor service, and I will never go back.

Arthur and Pat's - great

It is very evident, as you walk through the door, Arthur and Pat’s is not your average restaurant – the breakfast menu is lining the walls all around you, good time music is playing in the background, the staff is boisterous, authoritarian and working hard at their trade – a fun and different type of atmosphere.
Also evident is the fact that there is a different set of rules in play here – as someone who spent more than a few years in the restaurant and hospitality industry it is more than refreshing to see someone think outside the box in their approach toward dealing with customers. At Arthur and Pat’s the customer is always welcome but may not always be right – the mantra “the customer is always right” is not necessarily the case, and thankfully so.
Arthur and Pat’s is not your average breakfast and lunch establishment. Artie uses his immense talent, creativity and imagination to create wonderful dishes for both menus. Add to this the use of quality ingredients and you get the fun and different menu items you do – admittedly above the price of the “average egg and hash house” which Arthur and Pat’s is far from. Like all things in life, you get what you pay for.
How can you argue with their success? As far as I can tell they are busy from the opening to closing bell daily. That has got to tell you something. From a business standpoint it doesn’t get much better than that. If you don’t care for De’s approach, don’t bother coming! This is how they choose to do it. I think they will survive without you! I believe Arthur and Pat’s food and atmosphere is well worth the cost – both monetarily and mentally. No whining!!

Aurthur & Pat's get's Top Honors

I have been going to Aurthur & Pat's for several years, which obviously indicates my appreciation of outstanding food and comfortable ambiance; long before they were awarded "Best-of-Boston" status. In my opinion, without a doubt they serve the best breakfast on the South Shore--and beyond.

In the offseason, when A&P's closes, my friends and I continue our Sunday morning ritual and seek out breakfast places to "review". Started as a joke, it has evolved into a somewhat in-depth anlaysis, where eaach establishment is rated on a scale using sevewral standards.

I mention this because A&P's consistently wins Top Honors in our Annual Review!!! Best coffe, best food , ambiance and off course best waitresses...

De is the gold medialist of Olympic Service. She is all business and efficaency but exudes a charm and beauty unique to those in the business. She is simply a laugh out loud joy to behold. And of course there's Ellen: quiet and reserved in a smokey, somewhat sultry kind of way..(lucky Dave) you'll have to search far and wide to find better.

Artie is a creative Genius when it comes to his specials. A visionary. Today I experienced an omelet made with roasted mushroomss, boursin cheese and truffles!! TO DIE FOR... Other signature specials include Filet Mignon Eggs Bennie!!! The now fanous, Smoked Salmon and Poached Eggs!! Steak Tips and Eggs, Prime Rib Hash and Eggs...These are must rty dishes...

So...Go on down to the Brant Rock esplanade and experience a slice of culinary heaven.

Disappointed

My husband and I ate brunch on July 4, 07. We sat at the counter and ordered poached, bacon, toast, hash, potatoes well done and coffee. 2 singles at the counter ordered, were served, ate and left after we ordered. Another family of 3 ordered and was served after we ordered. When we inquired, staff was very rude, saying we ordered well done potatoes and that there were 140 orders ahead of us- did not seem that well done potatoes should take an additional 30+ minutes. The attitude was quite off putting. When we got the food, the potatoes were not edible because they were burnt. We have eaten there many times from year to year as my husband's family has lived in Marshfield for 50+ years. We would not recommend Arthur and Pats any longer.

$$$$$

My wife and I just recently moved to the area and have seen A & P on the Phantom Gourmet several times. After a few months we finally decided to give it a try. The resturant was a bit run down but warm and comfortable. We liked the menues on the walls but felt stupid sitting there for 5 minutes waiting for the actual menues to appear only to realize there wern't any. After a very long wait for our food, we finally ate. The food was very good, no disapointment. Finally the bill came and our quick trip for breakfast turned into our one night out. We ordered two omlets and an order of pancakes. The total with tip was $45.00 Next time I'll skip breakfast and go to the Capital Grill, it's cheaper.

Can I Have a Menu Please?

My wife and I have lived in Marshfield for over a year and finally decided to try out A & P. We were impressed at seeing it on the phantom gourmet TV show.

The menu items are posted all over the walls. We asked for a regular menu and were told that we have to look at the walls. It was awkward...and I thought right away...Gee...if I was an elderly person I wouldn't appreciate that. So my wife and I weaved in and out of the tables trying to select our breakfast items. They had some good choices...but if you're not sitting near the description of it...you would never know about it. I think A & P are missing out on a good opportunity to exhibit their extensive menu.

I took notice of the quality ingredients they have (i.e. Aunt Jemima syrup). I believe I saw them pouring Tropicana OJ. That's impressive but...my wife and I really didn't want to spend $25 including tip for breakfast. We got a pretty basic breakfast too. My rule of thumb is to stick with those places where breakfast is under 20. I wouldn't get into the 20's until lunch.

One final note...the cinnamon buns looked beautiful. However, they were sitting on a baking sheet directly in front of the patrons seated at the bar and were not covered. Didn't seem too hygienic to me. I don't know if we would go back. Some changes would have to be made to bring us back. We didn't buy into the whole.."like it or leave it" theme.

the best food I've ever eaten...

Arthur and Pat's is an AMAZING resturant and, apparently, far underappreciated by the locals. And I haven't even had the breakfast yet, I'm just talking lunch. I lived in Marshfield for a year, and now I come from Boston for the Chef's Signature Lobster Soup, which rates among the top three food experiences of my life. I am absolutely thrilled that they cater, because I'm having it at my wedding next year and I know people will be talking about it for ages. The prices, while a bit higher than your average suburban hashery, reflect the absolute MASTERY that goes into creating them. The Crazy Caesar Salad with garlicky shrimp and roasted asparagus is WELL worth the price, it is an uplifting culinary experience. If you like more basic food, they do that fantastically as well. Things like fried seafood and sandwiches are always great, if you can pass up the wouthwatering offerings on every wall! (How could kids fail to LOVE this place, there's a toy train that runs laps around the ceiling! I love it!) My fiancee is a buffalo wing afficianado, and he swears the Arthur and Pats' wings can compete with any he's ever had. Everyone I've ever brought to this place from out of town can't wait to come back. Family members are already eagerly asking if it will be open when they come to visit.

As for Dee, anybody with half a brain can see that she's a firecracker who runs a fantastic, high volume establishment. I've been there over and over again and have never found her to be anything other then warm and enthusiastic about the food and the resturant. Yes, she's loud. It IS her domain, and Artie's, and we're lucky to be in it! It's a great institution and I will go back over and over again.

If you can't take the heat, get outta the kitchen...and go back to IHOP...

Gourmet Fare and Excellent Service

We just returned from an 8-day genealogy trip to towns of Plymouth Colony, starting out every morning from Marshfield. Six mornings we started with an unforgettable breakfast at Arthur & Pat's, a spotlessly clean restaurant that's been around a long time. Once we discovered it, we kept going back. We couldn't stop. The fare is gourmet, and prices are reasonable considering the culinary experience. Don't miss the daily baked breads and muffins. Fresh, delicious food from the sea (crab cakes) and the garden! Be sure to enjoy the fresh greens offered with certain meals. The Norwegian Smoked Salmon with capers on a potato pancake is to DIE FOR. Our server Dee is a character with a heart of gold. She's part of the fun at this restaurant. The whole experience at this informal place on the beach is good, entertaining fun. All the servers were friendly and helpful. Go early, though. Individuals and families know not to miss this jewel at Brant Rock. (They also serve lunch!) Thank you, Dee-Ellen-and others, for starting our vacation days with a big smile!

misunderstood owner

I have noticed the occasional reference to 'rude owner' and I'm afraid that there is a misunderstanding. The owner has a unique style and you really have to know that she doesn't intend to be rude. I think rudeness is an intentional act. The owner never intends to 'hurt' anyone and... truth be told... She is a very caring and generous person. I like this place. The food is good and yes, it can be a little pricey. But, it's a Marshfield icon and should be experienced every so often. Too many restaurants are the same and it's great to have something different in town. Oh, and you want rude? Try the Brant Rock restaurant up on the hill... the place with the nice view.

A true gem...

Great, great, great breakfast at fair prices and a staff full of life and personality. Arthur and Pat's has everything you look for in a classic breakfast place. It does not have all the bells and whistles or fancy frills, but they offer food and service that simply can not be beat in Marshfield or anywhere else on the South Shore. I highly recommend them for breakfast any day of the week.

Horrible Place, Rude Owner, Greasey overpriced food,

The first thing you encounter is the RUDE owner/waitress "Dee". This woman has turned away many an anxious patrona over the years with her attitude.
If she happens to bump into you with a dish of egss or waffles and you end up with the meal on you, she makes no apolgy, laughs and walks away.
The food is OVERPRICED, GREASY and usually thrown at you in a rude jesture. NOT WORTH THE TRIP TO PAT & ARTHUR'S

Best Breakfast South of Boston

I have been going to Arthur and Pat's for years. I can hardly wait for the spring to come and the opening of this fine establishment. The anticipation of opening day is equal to Christmas. The winter months are pure torture trying to find a place that can compare with this fantastic restaurant! Reading many of the posted reviews and talking with people in Marshfield I have found that the ones who don’t like it fit into two categories: 1. People who are not willing to pay for the high quality food (an egg is not always an egg) 2. People who just don’t get it. Dee is great but I can see how some can find her abrasive. Myself, I like to sit back and watch the commotion, the place is always packed and they are trying to accommodate a huge crowd every weekend. I have no problem with Dee yelling at me to get to my table and sit down. The atmosphere is part of the fun, guess it is not for the faint of heart.

Now on to the food, tell me where you can get Hot Pastrami Eggs Benedict? I had it and thought I had died and went to heaven. The Waveos Rancheros WOW!!!! Not to mention the Banana Bread French Toast with warm pecan syrup, delicious. My all time favorite is the Filet Mignon Eggs Benedict, yes it runs $17.00 but you tell me where you can get a perfectly cook filet for that price. I love this place and if they charge me .50 for onions on my home fries I can deal with that. Artie and Dee, your parents would be proud! Looking forward to April!

An interesting experience

When I did eat there, I was given orange juice and champagne while waiting on the street in a line to get in.

I'm not sure the Marshfield liquor board would have been happy about that, but I suspect that activity has been suspended.

I found a wide menu, but again the service was sporadic due to how crowded the place was.

As for recommending, I'm not sure.

Where can get a decent breakfast at a decent price in a decent place around Marshfield or anywhere else on the South Shore for that matter?

Still the rudest place in town

Haven't been to Arthur & Pat's in 11 years because of how rudely Dee treated me last time I was there. Decided to give it another try. Sat down and did not even have menus on the tables when Dee very loudly commented on us not having a full party (we were a party of 5 minus 2 that were just outside walking in). My mother was told to "go outside & tell them to hurry up" and as soon as she walked out the door Dee told us that "she did not need this and that we should just leave". She then proceeded to seat another party at our table. I told her I would never be back, she replied "good". I don't know how this woman stays in business, but I will not make the mistake of walking in there again and unless you want to pay a lot of $$ to be treated very poorly, you should not either!

Rude and Crude

If you want to be treated like your scum rather than a paying customer, definitely A&P is just what you are looking for. We have been going there for the past several years and knew the service was not the best but they are so busy you figured the bad service was because the staff is overworked and underpaid. That is until "Dee" the owner who served us a side order of bacon that was so burnt you couldn't eat it "explained" that is the way we serve it and if you don't like it don't eat it. She didn't offer to bring us back another order after we explained that we had eaten their before and the bacon was never burnt. She than started making comments to other diners about our comments and was extremely rude during the rest of our meal, slamming water glasses down and slopping coffee over the cups. WE will never go back there again.

Best breakfast on the planet!!

When I first moved to Marshfield 3 years ago, I asked about Arthur and Pats and everyone would say the food was good, but a bit pricey. After my first visit I was hooked. Everytime I have a guest in town I always bring them to A and Ps and every single one of them loves it and can't wait to come back and visit to go there for breakfast. The food is unlike any breakfast place I have ever been too. How many breakfast places do you know that offer steak tips and eggs, crab cakes and eggs and my favorite banana bread french toast. A and Ps uses fresh quality ingredients in all of their dishes. Lunch is excellent too!! Their shrimp caesar salad is too die for. They offer an extensive menu for both breakfast and lunch!!!

We have been going here off and on for years, but the prices usually take us somewhere else for breakfast. The omlets are huge, so when we do go my husband and I split one.

Fantastic

Great place, clean, friendly and unique. Dee is great, greets you with a smile and a laugh. Food is fantastic and the portions huge. Quality is also unbelievable as is the selection. Prices are fair considering the portions, selection and quality. Would go back as often as I could..too bad they don't serve dinner!

Overpriced ....... you won't get me again !

An egg is an egg ... a potato a potato ... a slice of bread,etc......I enjoy them until i bump into places like this that take advantage of you, knowing your not going to walk out after seeing their rediculous prices. The only thing to do is not go back, and tell others so they don't fall into their expensive trap.

Great food , underappreciated by clueless locals too dense to get the point.

I have lived in Marshfield for years and after having traveled all over the world I can say that the food here is some of the best anywhere. One thing I know about Marshfield is that most of the town residents have a very narrow view of what constitutes good food. Ususally cheap is high on their list of priorities, and massive portions rank second. Quality is way down near the bottom. Arthur and Pats's is not about huge portions of cheap food, so most of the townies don't eat there. Fine with me. They can swill down plates of greasy eggs and home fries, rot gut coffee and hash out of a can at many of the local dumps. I hope they all get heartburn. The food here is the highest quality available, $18.00 dollar a pound (wholesale)Serrano ham, Parmasan Reggiano at $14.00 a pound, Scottish smoked salmon, in a signature potato pancake and poached egg dish is as fine a breakfast as you will ever have. For the great mass of flannel clad, pick up truck driving Marshfielders, its pearls before swine. Please stay away, let the people who can appreciate the quality go there and you can go back to your egg McMuffins.

Awesome!!

Want great food, great service, fun times, go to Arthur and Pat's. Before you even have a chance to settle in your seat, a waitress is beside you, and seconds later coffee, tea or juice is in front of you. The menu is endless, with each choice more delicious than the last. The waitresses are fun, friendly and they never stop. Whatever you need, it's at your table in seconds. You leave there pleasantly full, having enjoyed yourself and looking forward to your next visit there.

They still got it

Ive been going here for years and the prices have definitely gone up. but its still worth it. you know you are getting a great meal consistantly everytime, whether its breakfast or lunch. the lunch specials change week to week usually have a reasonable price.(big fan of the Blueplate) I have large groups in all the time and this is the place to go where they can accomodate you and everyone will enjoy it and you can skip lunch. they also give you pitchers of water on those mornings you require rehydration. People complain about "dee" all the time but she owns the joint. If you cant beat her, join her. Yell across the room if you need a refill, she doesnt mind and if her lip offends just dont tip her. the only way she'll learn is if we kick her down a notch.

Rude Rude Rude

Visited on Sunday May 21st, 2006. First time visiting since the opened for the season. Not only have they gone up in prices, but the service was the worst I've ever expecianced. Had 5 people eating, 4 meals (omelets and pancakes) came and had to wait an extra 5-10 longer for a muffin to get off the grill. Our waitress was the rudest. She needed an attitude adjustment. Had to send bacon back for being burnt and she gave us lip 3 times. They also told another patron that if the place was busy they would move her during her meal. They need to start thinking about customer service because they are losing the regulars. The place was not as busy as previous trips. My family will not be going back agian.

Much Too Expensive for the amount of food you get.

Not what it use to be. They've slipped in so many ways. There's better, fairer priced, and larger dishes of food close by.

Been here long enough to see them getting rich over the years while forgetting who made them. Use to get more food at fairer prices which made for a nice place to go.

Best breakfast anywhere

Moved back to the south shore 4 years ago and while trying out different locations for breakfast, refound Arthur & Pats......grest place to eat, great food, might be too busy at times...but what can you do? When our children visit from NY, NH, Maine, they all want to go back down to Brant Rock to Arthur & Pats, and our daughter in laws love it as well. It is not the cheapest place around but the food is worth it, and the waitstaff has always been very efficent and polite to us.....I actually hate to build it up too much it will be busy enough in the summer, but we try to avoid the busiest times. Cant wait for them to open, have not been able to find anything close for great breakfasts on the south shore...any suggestions?

+++ Not the place for breakfast +++

Won't have breakfast here anymore !
They got me for the last time.

Bring a fat wallet. They charge you steak prices for eggs!
Owners think they have the RITZ here, because someone important gave them a compliment years ago.
I guess they try to make you comfortable with kids pictures on the wall, so your less likely to complain about the prices?

Talk about squeezing every pennie out of you!!!!! Don't ask for an extra napkin or fork that may have dropped on the floor.....you'll wait for new one unless they can charge you for it.
Actually you'll wait any way.

Wish I could go back

My family summers in Marshfield every year. We used to go to Arthur and Pat's several times a summer. Yeah, it's overpriced. Sure, they try to get you to order stuff you don't need and charge you extra for it ("How about a Strawberry Bash!" (OJ with strawberries), "Want some cheese sauce on your potatoes? Onion?" ) Where do they charge you extra for onions on your homefries? At Arthur and Pat's. And don't let the kids sit at their own table. When you get the bill you'll have to take out a 2nd mortgage. But the food is good and it feels right to be there - it screams "beach tacky" and makes you want to relax. But we finally had to throw in the towel. Dee is too much to bear. She's rude, she's nasty and I can't hand her another one of my hard-earned dollars. My kids don't even like her and they like everybody.

most overrated restaurant in the world

I waited patiently for a waitress and complained after 15 minutes and was told
I could leave. You can imagine my surprise when I found out it was the owner!
She is crude, rude and the food is overpriced and not quality.
At first you think maybe this is an attempt at Durgin Park but then you realize this is for real.
No thank you!
They do a great business in the summer and everything is extra. If you don't like it, they could care less!

I've had better and cleaner!!!

Been there....done that! Will NOT return to Arthur & Pat's. It was OVER-PRICED, and could have been CLEANER! The tables were sticky and it took about 15 minutes to get waited on and there was only 2 other tables waited on already. Phantom Gormet needs to go back and have a second round and also look around...maybe this time with his glasses ON!!! Waitress was rude too!

Oh Pu-Leeeze

The food at Arthur & Pat's is terrific - and Dee and Artie and everybody else are great. This is high quality food - and guess what?? Those ingredients cost MONEY! If you want generic food go to Chili's. And as for attitude - grow up!
You want attitude - come to New Tork where I live - THEN you'll get attitude.
And before you diss me as some New Yorker - I grew up in Boston and have had a house down the street from Brant Rock for more than 40 years.
Keep up the good work Dee! And as for the rest of you - she's right - SHUT THE DOOR!!!

Review submitted on October 10th, 2005 by Rick – from Pembroke

Ambiance?

They are or at least I think they are trying to be cute with the disorganized menu system (on the menu, on all four walls and over the counter), and the sometimes gruff service (Hey, anyone need a refill?.....Shut the door please!), and the cafeteria type tables, chairs and floor covering. They don't get away with being cute with the prices they charge. Breakfast for two for near $30 is not cute. The best think we can hope for is that the next big Nor'easter knocks this dilapidated building down and hauls it out to sea.

Expensive, cramped and noisy

Hubby and I had gift certificates so went to breakfast. First thing that assaulted us was a women at the door (that has a table for four smack dab in front of it) YELLS across the room "Dee, table for 2". Dee (the owner) points or yells where to put them - usually someplace she can wait on them. The "hostess" closed the door on a foursome until Dee told her where she could put them (in Dee's area, of course) All through our meal it was "Dee...."."Dee..." very annoying. When Dee waits on you, she doesn't look at you, she just looks around her domain as she takes your order. You can't read the menu off the walls with ease...way too much info first thing in the morning....Our simple breakfast came to over $27.00 without tip.....and that's another thing.....you shouldn't have to tip the owner/waitress....owning a restaurant is not easy, but let's not get too greedy...mom and dad would probably spin if they realized how their little girl has brought the place down.....and the Phantom should make another visit....what's below mezza mezza?

Two Words......

Expensive Breakfast!!!!!!!! I thought breakfast was supposed to be cheap? Not this place. I was shocked by the bill and shocked by the setup of the place. Not at all cozy but more like a rundown cafeteria. If you want a great breakfast go to kosmos.

Over rated and wayyyyyy over priced

They've been over rated and over priced for years. I try them every other year or so (did so resently) and found it true all over again.

Save your money and eat elsewhere.

First hand experience

I used to work at Arthur and Pats,. and not only is the food way, way, way over priced. But the the woman who owns it was very hard to work for. She would kick people out of the restraunt if they were done eating and there was a line out the door. I dont know about you, but usually on Sundays, when I go out to breakfast with my friends or family, we like to relax and sit and chat. The head cook smokes cigarettes in the back, and leaves them dangling off the side of the grill. So for those of you who love eating ashes for breakfast, this is the place to go.

The Best In Brant Rock

We have been vacationing in Marshfield for 6 years now. By far Arthur & Pats is the BEST restaurant in Brant Rock. The waitstaff is nothing but nice and the food is excellent! Before anything else, order the Bananna Bread and if you don't mind spending a little extra $$ for a great breakfast, order the filet mignon with eggs benedict. I can't even begin to describe it! We go there everyday for two weeks either for breakfast or for lunch....I give it a 10!

Review submitted on July 20th, 2005 by Galgay – from Marshfield

Way overpriced

We visited there when we moved here in 02. The dusty posters on the wall are too much to deal with so early in the AM. The smell of Ketchup is overpowering and the food is overpriced! Not one of our favorite places.

Arthur & Pat's is our favorite

After reading many of these reviews, it looks as though most of them came from the owners of "The Mug". Arthur and Pat's is my favorite restaurant in the world, and believe me, I've been all over. The atmosphere is casual and fun, the wait staff treats everyone like family, and the food is incredible. Everything is lovingly homemade, and you can really taste that in the food.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ WoW!!!!!

I think they are trying to go out of business with these prices. I understand they want close for the winter, but I am not going pay for it in one meal.

dont forget to hit the atm

foods heres not bad, but wayyyyyy over priced, its no wonder they only do breakfest and lunch dinner would cost you a fortune!!! my girlfreind and i spent $37.00 plus tip for the two of us to eat a modest meal

A GREAT place!!!

You do get what you pay for....an Arthur & Pat's breakfast will last you until dinner!!! Or, split a breakfast with a friend.....
Meals are varied and delicious....these folks know how to fry seafood....all the other places in Brant Rock overfry!!!! The selections are endless..the waitresses are entertaining...the food is homemade (from scratch) unlike most competitors....I love the place!!!!
And for those who complain about the price...go to the Mug...you deserve that lower quality!!

Review submitted on March 9th, 2005 by mikshan – from sea view

so so...too expensive

we used to go there all the time to eat BK (before kids), rarely go there now as it is WAY ovrpriced. Come on 25-35 bucks for two people to eat breakfast...forget that! The wildflower cafe in duxbury is much nicer; the food is better and cheaper oh and it's not cramped.

Rough & Tough

The food is o.k. I think they got carried away with all of the "specials". It's hard to figure out what to order. The owners/waitresses are rough! I used to be REALLY INTIMIDATED to go in here and would avoid it because of the service, but my friends like it so I go with their protection! I still think it costs way too much for a couple of eggs and toast. I would rate it a 1 1/2.

Review submitted on February 10th, 2005 by ashley – from marshfield

i assume the waitress's are so mean because of constant complaints?

i went there with a friend for breakfast....ok so i'm only 19, but that doesn't mean the waitress has any right to act superior. i know what good service is, and i also know that a small glass of orange should never- ever cost more than 1.50 the waitress roodly questioned me when i politley asked for surop when i only have eggs, homefries and toast, (she wasn't poking fun or joking). i used to go here daily with my dad when he worked the night shift and all my awsome childhood memories were completeley crushed by my expierience. next time if i want impecible service and amazingly cheap well worth it breakfast i'll go to the mug.....by the way our tab was $27.00(for two orders of eggs, bacon, homefris andone order of toast and two glasses of o.j) be aware that at the mug it would've been around 14...if not less

The Best Place in MA

This place is awsome. I can't see how anyone could dilike it. They have a good menu and a great family atmosphere. The only downside is that the place is always packed. Arthur & Pats is by far my favorite returaunt and those who event been there should not take into account the other reviews. It is a great place.

Holy Jesus....

This is one of those places that assaults all of your senses. I know, I know... they really don't mean to do that to you -- but imagine this: You just wake up on a bleary Saturday morning. You tug your poor ass outta' bed, but you're just too tired to do anything for yourself. After popping on your slippers, you're driving across town when you decide to try Arthur & Pat's. As you open the door, the overbearing smells of grease laden food acosts your nasal senses. That alarming experience gets you to look up. The walls are blaring with marker art for every item on the menu. (I'm telling you, looking at this stuff does not make me want to order any of it.) I begin to feel nausea... "Coffee please," I utter. The coffee brings me back from the brink and I order bacon, eggs, and toast. (A word of advice: those homefries have been chargrilled for hours... don't get near them.)

My Personal rating? one half of a star out of five. -Bc

A Marshfield institution

It is true that the price of an omlette will surprise you, but my hubby (a big guy) and I split one of their huge omlettes and get an extra order of toast. Too bad the coffee is only pretty good. Really great coffee would be a plus. The ambience is part of the visit. If you want cheap, so to Friendly's.

Over Rated

My wife and I and our daughters use to go there. We have noticed the quality of the food has really, really gone down. I'm sorry, but the prices are way out of wack. I'm glad there is other restaurants in town because we really beleive it has really gone down hill, fast....

I used to love this place...

There was a time when I thought Arther & Pat's was the best place in New England for breakfast. But over the past couple of times I've been there, I've definitely changed my mind.

I think you can still get a decent breakfast there, but no better than a couple other places in town, AND it'll cost you twice as much! My wife and I recently went there. We each had coffee and juice. She had waffles and bacon. I had an omelette and bacon. The bill was over $32. Excuse me? We can get a pretty decent dinner for that price!

Probably just as well. They're way over on the other side of town, and we can get as good (or better) food at the Mug for less than half the price.

Review submitted on July 17th, 2004 anonymously – from Marshfield, MA

Yummy!

Best breakfast in town. It's true that it is a little pricey, but you certainly get what you pay for. Omelettes are yummy... make sure to try a piece of the banana bread and the fruit cup is fresh and overflowing. There's a reason why it's always crowded... but you can usually get seated pretty fast and the food is speedy as well.

Very Dissapointing

We were very dissapointed by the service at this place. We can't comment on the food because we never got ours!! I would hope that this was just an off day, but a woman who claimed to be the owner, not only yelled at us, but put her hands on us when we attempted to leave after not getting our food for 45 minutes. We did think our waitress was friendly and that the overall atmosphere seemed good, but these people were definitly lacking in the hospitality component, they were downright rude and unprofessional.

Wow!!!

Arthur & Pat's is one of my all-time favorites. Breakfast will take care of you for most of the day; Artie's special omelets will start your day off right. And tghe menu surrounds you...all over the walls.
Lunch? Great seafood (their calamari is THE BEST!!), Italian....everything!!! And the waitresses are entertaining and helpful.

You will spend an extra buck or two but it is well worth the price!!! You get more than what you pay for!!!

We love this place

This funky and fun place is a must do for breakfast. We bring our out of town friends and family here for breakfast on the days we don't want to cook. It's a hoot with the zany waitresses, excellent food, and general fun. It's more than breakfast, it's a good time.

There are few places like Arthur & Pat's for breakfast

There are very few other places quite like Arthur & Pat's. We go there for breakfast. Don't go unless you are really hungry, the meals are enormous and the food is always good. We almost alway take some home for lunch or "tomorrow's" breakfast. It is somewhat noisy, but in a friendly sort of way. The selection is unbelievable and once seated, service is fast. If you don't want to wait in line outside, get there very early or come late. The worst thing about Arthur & Pat's is that they close for the winter.

Arthur and Pats

Prices are way to high...Good thing the foods worth it. Thought the waitresses were a little tough, not really kids friendly, too small.

Review submitted on December 6th, 2003 anonymously – from Marshfield

Way overated

The place is cramped, the prices are too high and the waitresses are tough old broads with too much make-up. They do not yet realize that they are in the 'hospitality' business. I think that the loyalty to that place is probably based on nostalgia. Yeah, and let's bring back polio epidemics.

We can't forget to mention how delicious the lunches are at Arthur & Pat's. I have one question though: why won't they open for dinner?????
